"A Little Known Masterpiece"

Listen to “Estampas y Estampillas” (“Pictures and Postcards”), when you open the “About” page of JaimeMendozaNava.net. Neil Brast of Palo Alto, California describes the work as “A little known masterpiece – These musical miniatures for cello duet or cello choir are masterfully crafted with lively rhythms, subtle moods, and everchanging sonorities. Great fun to play.” (Aug 7, 2006). Billboard’s April 27, 1957 review of the MGM Orchestra recording with Carlos Surinach as Conductor, refers to the recordings on the album as “Rewarding. Bolivian Mendoza-Nava’s 'Pictures and Post Cards' relying on folkloristic elements, including Creole dances, exploits unusual instrumentation.”

CSU Fullerton’s Cello Choir in collaboration with CSU Fresno’s Choir performed works by South and North American composers at the “Go America!” concert on December 4, 2015. (produced by Professor Bongshin Ko)

Estampas y Estampillas” was performed in honor of the tenth anniversary of the composer’s death.

See below Youtube links to view each of the work’s five moments as performed by Professor Thomas Loewenheim, Sunghee Chang, Aimee Dockum, Lila Yang, Emma Hill, Patricia Fronda, Hanna Ling, Kathrynne Wills, Inwoo Su, and Alexandra Ruiz From CSU Fullerton and CSU Fresno.

“The CSUF Cello Choir, directed by Professor Bongshin Ko, has been in existence since Spring 2001. Its purpose is to introduce music students to the vast array of performance literature for cello ensemble and advance the performance practice of the cello choir. The group's activities offer a combination of rehearsals, sectionals, workshops/master classes and concerts with guest artists and conductors. Members of the Cello Choir are full-time CSUF students and students enrolled through Cal State Fullerton's Extended Education. High school students, age 16 and older, may audition for the ensemble.”
